The White Salmon
|
|
The White Salmon is the most popular Class IV river rafting in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge. Congress declared the White Salmon a National Wild and Scenic River in 1986 for it's outstanding qualities. There are several sections of the White Salmon with Class V rapids, but most people raft or kayak from BZ Corner to Husum Falls.

Drifters Oregon Rafting (800)
972-0430 runs exciting half day trips on the White
Salmon River every
day from April through October.
It's
just over an hour away from Portland and about 20 minutes from the town
of Hood River. The White Salmon is a must-do rafting trip for anyone
visiting the Gorge. You'll love it for the great whitewater, beautiful
forested canyon, and the unique Husum
Falls.
The White Salmon begins on the glaciers of Mt Adams and flows into the Columbia River. There is great boatable whitewater along the entire length of the White Salmon, but most people raft the exciting lower section of the river that begins near BZ Corner and ends in the small hamlet of Husum. There is a state of the art put-in at BZ Corner with a big parking lot, restrooms, and a spectacular boat ramp down to the river. Some of the commercial outfitters have wonderful private river access above here that allow for a couple extra miles of whitewater.
The
whitewater on the White Salmon is continuous and the excitement begins
with Maytag, a formidable Class IV rapid. Below here
the whitewater is nonstop and you'll run the rapids
Corner Cave, Grasshopper, Siwash, Corkscrew, Waterspout, Stairstep, Highway
Hole, Rattlesnake, and Deadmans' Corner in five
action packed miles. The whitewater ends with Husum Falls,
a ten foot vertical waterfall.
Husum Falls is a unique experience. There are very few rivers with ten foot waterfalls that rafts can navigate. With an experienced guide and the right river flow, you may have the chance to run this drop!
